Top Table Etiquette!

Yes, Yes I know! I missed last weeks #weddingwednesday blog! what can I say? life got in the way...... but I'm back!

And this week, we are talking Top Table Etiquette...... or lack of it! depending on how you want to look at it.

Now those of you that have visited our boutique will already know..... I'm far from traditional! That's not to say I'm a gothic emo alternative boutique owner just that I like to throw tradition out the window occasionally and do things my own way and top tables at weddings would be one of those things!!

Now, as you can see from the incredibly glamorous picture I've added to this blog, this is a traditional top table, where you separate everyone who knows one another and make everyone feel really awkward on what should be a rather fabulous day!

I know this isn't the case for everyone's family, where both sides of the newly wed's families actually get on really well and have spent a lot of time in one another's company prior to the wedding, but for those who have only met a couple of times...... this can be a horrible set up!

Let's take the chief bridesmaid for example...... how often will she have met the GROOMS father before the wedding? (assuming she's not the grooms sister!!!) if at all? plus there is likely to be an age gap of 20-30 years and this poor girl is going to be necking the prosecco like it's water to alleviate the sheer lack of conversation between herself and a guy she has absolutely nothing in common with and lets be honest..... she's going to be sat there for quite a while and there's only so many times she can say "Doesn't the bride look amazing?, Your son is a lucky boy" !!

If this set up works for you then great! go for it, but if it doesn't, don't feel forced in to sitting people in a certain fashion to adhere to tradition when you know it's going to create a bit of tension or awkwardness, hell, life has changed so much since this table plan was created a lot of peoples top tables are scattered with kids these days and others don't even bother with the top table at all!

It's another one of those "Don't sweat the small stuff" kind of things..... there are much bigger things to worry about and a lot of wedding's I've attended, rarely is everyone seated at the top table at the same time anyway..... people are always up and about wandering off..... nightmare for a group photo!!

So, that's it from me this week...... another load of useless info for you no doubt, but I do enjoy rambling on!

Until next time

Sammy
